Eventually, one of the scrapings ignites and sets them all off. This... kind of, powder keg of scrapings burns so intensely that it will make some of the most difficult tinders go to flames. I first saw this technique Friday night on Nathaniel's Adventures Channel (Link below). He was easily igniting paper and other tinders and it seemed to make a lot of sense to me.
