Lavinia Bertotti, soprano Ensemble Laus Concentus Many women celebrated as singers are known to have composed music for their own performances, although much of this repertoire may never have been transcribed. Among them was Settimia Caccini, who, according to Jacopo Cicognini, created some of the pieces she sang: “The music mentioned above was composed by the same women who performed it, the second with exquisite delicacy by Signora Settimia, daughter of the renowned Giulio Romano.” Indeed, several of Settimia Caccini’s compositions for voice and basso continuo have been preserved in two related manuscripts, alongside works by her husband, Alessandro Ghivizzani.
