This video describes the route we used to climb Eagle Mountain in Inyo Co. CA. on 3-30-2018. The route starts 18.7 miles north on highway #127 from the Crowbar/post office in Shoshone, where you turn north on a faint dirt road and go a short distance, approximately 1/4 mile, and park. Cross the Amargosa river, which is usually dry, head across the alluvial fan toward the mountain and look for an obvious canyon where you will find a trail marked with cairns. There is more than one route, but, the one I drew on the photo in the beginning of the video is the one we took. The rock here is very abrasive and the route also has some loose gravelly areas that can be difficult. Once near the top the route circles around to the south and east before you make the final climb to the summit. I climbed a sub peak that was really fun and afforded me good views of the surrounding area as well as of the summit. The hike was 4 1/4 miles long with an elevation gain of 1830 feet to where Julie stopped, plus about 125 feet more of elevation gain for the peak that I climbed and it took us 4 1/2 hours to complete.
