Here, at long last, is the YouTube version of our titanic episode on BOLT THROWER. We start from their origins in British crust punk, then move through the two main phases of their sound, each represented by a classic record. BUT WAIT, there's more: For us, the spirit of Bolt Thrower is so thoroughly entangled with the mythos of Warhammer 40K, that you can't talk about one without talking about the other. So this is also kind of an episode on Warhammer. For the occasion, we pulled together our most ambitious video yet. Still pretty lo-fi, but full of classic Bolt Thrower and/or Warhammer art, for what is hopefully a more atmospheric experience. All standalone WH images (those not on Bolt Thrower covers, inserts, etc.) are by master remembrancer John Blanche, whose work distills the metalpunk essence of 40K and Bolt Thrower alike. 0:00:00 - Intro / a brief history of Bolt Thrower and UK stenchcore 0:38:48 - Realm of Chaos (Slaves to Darkness) (Earache Records, 1989) 1:43:49 - Interlude - Bolt Thrower - “World Eater 94” fr. Who Dares Wins (Earache Records, 1998) 1:49:57 - The IVth Crusade (Earache Records, 1992) 3:16:28 - Just Before Dawn - “The Gulf of Tonkin” fr. A War Too Far (Raw Skull Recordz, 2023) HERESY CORRECTIVE: In a moment of warp-tainted delusion, TBMG misidentifies the Space Marine chapter on the cover of WH40K 1st Edition. It is the CRIMSON Fists, NOT the Imperial Fists. The Inquisition has been notified.
