TORDENSKIOLD: the story of a naval hero

Tordenskiold was an eminent Norwegian naval officer in the service of King Frederik IV of Denmark-Norway. He rose to the rank of Vice-Admiral in the Royal Dano-Norwegian Navy during the Great Northern War. An unusually successful rise in rank considering he died in a duel with a Swedish colonel, when he was only 29 years old. For his personal courage and his victories over the Swedes, he is probably considered the most famous naval hero in Denmark as well as in Norway. Tordenskjolds sarcophagus rests in the chapel of the naval church, "Holmens Kirke" in Copenhagen. Music: Laura Mo - Tordenskiolds vise (from the album "1717")
