I had to revise and upload it straight away. It was delivered just thirteen days after the Metropolitan Tabernacle was opened for use as a church. On Monday 18th March 1861 at 7am, one thousand people had gathered for prayer at the opening of the new building. Now, on 31st March, Spurgeon speaks of his hope for the fire of the Lord to descend upon the people. How the preacher, with solemn sincerity, longed to be dissolved in the glory of Christ! He wanted the Lord alone to be remembered. What simple and frank love for Jesus and for the people is displayed here!
