Iranian-Americans rally in downtown Portland celebrating death of Iran’s supreme leader

As global tensions rise following the coordinated strikes on Iran, many Iranian-Americans are celebrating the death of Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran. Dozens of Iran-Americans and supporters took to the streets of Downtown Portland Sunday, praising President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their joint effort in killing Khamenei, who has ruled Iran for more than four decades. “What we’re witnessing is not just a political shift,” Sara Houranpay, an organizer for the rally said. “This represents hope and dignity for Iranians. It also makes Iranians hopeful that are in Iran; that they can speak freely, that they can live full lives, and that they can choose what their destiny is for politically in the future.” Susan Pakdaman lives in Portland, but is from Iran.
