A woman smothers her children. But is she culpable?   --- IRVING, Texas, USA – It’s late evening, and inside a dimly lit police station in Irving, Texas, a surveillance camera captures a woman wandering. Wearing glasses, a surgical mask, a sweater and shorts and clutching some personal items in her left arm, she appears confused – there’s no one at reception to help her. The front desk of Irving’s south station is not staffed at this time, so she walks off camera and circles. At some point, she’s told if she needs to make a police report, she can use the phone that’s hanging on the reception wall. After about 13 minutes of pacing, at 10:09 pm, she finally locates it. Earlier that day, Madison McDonald was home with her two girls – six-year-old Archer and 23-month-old Lillian. She had taken the day off work and called the girls’ school to keep them at home. All day, they watched television, played games and ate their favorite foods. At around 9:30 pm, she grabs some paperwork, including birth certificates, and some electronic devices, and gets into her white Chevy Suburban, drives about 20-something minutes south to this station, and picks up the phone to make an extraordinary admission.
