This video aims to demonstrate how traditional British and Irish folk songs were preserved in Appalachia, with emphasis on traditional recordings. The video is very long, but feel free to just listen to the music without taking in all of the details! I will be uploading lots more similar content, so make sure you subscribe to my channel to make sure you don't miss it! Many of the featured recordings were taken from the YouTube channel Reynard the Fox, which has collected and uploaded several thousand authentic English language folk songs. I’d urge everyone interested in traditional music to explore and subscribe to Reynard the Fox’s channel. If I made this video again, I would focus more on where each Appalachian recording came from, and discuss in more detail the huge part broadside ballads played in the distribution of the songs. In the recording at 0:45, it is in fact Greer's wife playing the dulcimer to accompany his singing. Support this channel on Patreon: https://patreon.com/TheFolkRevivalPro...
