There are hundred of weather balloons with radiosondes launched every day around the world to help Meteorological and Aviation understand what is going on in our atmosphere. These balloons are one use devices and the balloon eventually bursts and the radiosonde comes back to earth on a parachute. They have a lithium battery and we will have some examples of them at the presentation. They transmit on the 75cm band and can be picked up using a modest receiver and antenna. Some amateurs have even repurposed the transmitters for amateur beacons on 70cm. 00:01:00 - The sport of Weather Balloon chasing from Steve VK7OO with support from Anders VK7TCP and Steven VK7SH 00:01:30 - Historical view - late 1800 in France, radiosondes 1929, 1938. 1300 launched a day. 00:04:10 - All about tracking 00:05:00 - Project Horus and Sondehub and the telemetry http://www.projecthorus.org/ https://sondehub.org/ 00:08:45 - Auto_RX and KA9Q software - one SDR and multiple receivers 00:11:10 - Installation of the Auto_RX software 00:15:45 - Hardware example using RTL-SDR 00:16:50 - Antennas used 00:18:00 - Chasing and recovering 00:19:20 - Chase car hardware and software - phone tracking 00:23:00 - Tracking stories 00:33:20 - First planned recovery - Profiler: https://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler... 00:42:00 - Happy hunting - Questions and Answers 00:53:00 - Rex VK7MO - early job with BOM and early radiosonde development 00:59:30 - Kim VK7KB - BOM experience with radiosondes 01:10:20 - Thank you Steve, Rex & Kim.
