First upload in a LONG time...it's my latest project completed. As I was having a hard time finding a used one of these in the color and price range I wanted (and new ones are too expensive right now), I decided to make one of my own. I found some helpful pics on a drum forum as to how to make the lug spacers, and so I used those as a starting guide. The shell (Keller Maple) and hoop (forgot the brand, but also Maple) were pre-formed (with a bearing edge cut on the shell by Keller), and I had the lugs and rods from another used bass drum (which I was going to use for the main shell here but ruined it). The lug spacers were mostly done by hand out of a scrap of Maple, and the hoop required some custom cutting to make it sit lower. I went with legs instead of mounting it to tom stands since that was the cheaper hardware option, and although I originally was trying to finish the shell myself, it proved too much, and so I stripped it off and went with a wrap in the color I wanted (from drum bum wraps). The spacers and hoop are finished, not wrapped. The color scheme is based on my toms and kick (which are Custom Charcoal, basically black) and my main snare, which is a Natural Golden Maple. I really like how it sounds. The head is a Remo Powerstroke 3 Renaissance, and it's oversized by 2" (like the Tama Gong Drums feature as a standard). The size of the drum is about 20x15". I think I will need to get some different hooks that have rubber on them. That way they won't rattle at this tuning (like you can hear happening when I used the felt side of the sticks). Lastly, this sound clip does very little justice to how the drum actually sounds in person, especially in the room I'm in. In person, it sounds HUGE, and there isn't as much "snap" when using sticks like you hear in the video. I plan to record it with special mics at some point, though.
