More promotions, lots of staff spam on Lugh, a Guiding Ring, and some levels on the murder chicken. This is probably one of the most interesting maps in the game tbh, there's tons of side objectives, and getting the Member Card over to the secret shop can be a hell of a thing sometimes. I'm pretty proud of this clear overall. Compared to averages, Alan has: 2.85 HP 0.45 Str 0.4 Skill 2.45 Speed 5.4 Luck (???) 0.75 Def 0.9 Res This is pretty good! Nice Luck stat. Lance has: 0.2 HP 0.4 Str 3.45 Skill 0.5 Speed 0.35 Luck 1.8 Def 5.15 Res (??????) So Alan got a Luck bless and Lance got a Res bless. Fascinating. Clarine has: 1.6 HP 1.3 Mag 3.6 Skill 1.5 Speed 0.35 Luck 0.9 Def 2.6 Res Odd spread. --- Chapter 16 of FE6 Hard Mode Ranks This run, in a sense, uses RNG manipulation. The RNG of FE6 is static, which means that from a fresh reset, the same numbers are rolled to determine any action that uses RNG, such as whether an attack hits, crits, or misses; which stats are gained on a level up; which direction the enemies move on enemy phase; and which direction the arrow pointer moves if it has to redraw itself. I used this, along with savestates, to my advantage in my routing. This run is constructed by me making an action with the unit, observing the outcome of either the attack or the entire player phase, and deciding what to do afterward. If the outcome is successful or neutral, I would continue on from there. If the action failed, I would reload savestates and play with different enemy targets, movement orders, weapons, or placement until I got an outcome I liked. This means that this strategy is not at all safe: if I send Sophia who gets OHKO'd and doubled by an opponent to attack that opponent with a 43% hit rate, I'm doing it because I know in advance that she'll hit, so there's no risk of her taking a counter. I recognize that this isn't everyone's cup of tea; I think a lot of people want to watch Fire Emblem content that seems a lot more properly random instead of "rigged", and while it is possible to SS-rank the game without using savestates or paying attention to RNG, I wasn't sure if my goal of getting all units to 20 would even be possible without rigging some actions in their favor (like the Sophia example above). This series is largely intended as a proof-of-concept demonstration. At some point in the future, I would like to revisit ranked runs and play them live, without knowing what the RNG will do. But for right now I am just testing the game's limits. --- The strategies and unit deployment, while at times inspired by those of the ranked runner Melth - https://lparchive.org/Fire-Emblem-Bin... - are ultimately of my own creation. These were recorded on mGBA and should be replicable on mGBA. The filter being used is mGBA's OpenGL filter, which desaturates and darkens the colors to something a little less eye-searing. Ranking requirements for this chapter: Turns: 25 (I took 21 turns, so I'm -19 total) EXP: 30100 (total) Funds: 96000 (total) Power: 596 (represents the combined total of all recruited units' levels; promoted units are their level + 20) A Ranked Run is a run of Fire Emblem where you attempt to have 5 stars in every rank by the end of the game. Ranks can be viewed with the "Augury" option before a chapter (first available somewhere around ch11). Information about what is needed to achieve each rank can be found at https://serenesforest.net/binding-bla.... I also have several sub-goals: Finish the game with more than 150k in funds (this is what the funds ranking is supposed to be but for the bug mentioned in the Serenes Forest link). Get the best ending (fight Iduun & use the Binding Blade to finish her). Get a Roy/Lilina A support for the additional cutscene at the end. Recruit all characters. Recruit Cath in chapter 12. Recruit Hugh for full value. Visit every village, get every chest, and also visit every house even though they're useless. Steal all items worth a Lockpick or more, and steal as much else as is feasible. Raise all unpromoted units to (at least) level 20. Never use the Arena. Go to the A route on the Western Isles, the route that gets you Echidna and Lalum. Go to Ilia. (I wanted to do Sacae for the flex, but I'm not sure that's compatible with the "get all units to 20" rule without more RNG manipulation than I want to bother with.) I'm also going to try to get at least one S rank user of every weapon type, but may have to settle for all but Light.
