Day 27 | Van Projects in Baja — Bug Screens & Fixing Our Sagging Storage Box We start the day fresh with a van project and finish installing our Van Essential bug screen kit. This install goes much smoother than the sliding door did, and we’re really happy with how it turned out. In this video, we share a quick overview of the setup, with a full install guide coming next week. Next, we head to a local mechanic to find a solution for our sagging hitch-mounted storage box. After talking through options, the mechanic suggests welding a support bar onto the hitch to better handle the weight—and we decide to go for it. The process takes most of the day, but the end result is a huge improvement. The box sits better, feels more secure, and gives us peace of mind moving forward. By the time everything is finished, it’s already dark, so we stay another night at the backyard campground and call it an early night. Van chore days always take longer than expected and completely drain our energy, but we’re hopeful this fix will last for the rest of the trip and let us shift our focus back to exploring.
