Charcoal is one of my favourite drawing tools for creating transfers. In this case we take a photograph converted to only black and white in iPhoto, and a version of the same photo made thinner using GIMP. Our editor, Joshua Blanc explains the process. The charcoal fills in any black area on the photo which is then transferred to the gel plate with composition in mind. The magic happens when colour is added. 💰 DONATE: If you would like to support Shoreline Studio for ART SUPPLIES (and a latte for Josh!), you are welcome to donate to my PAYPAL account: https://paypal.me/painterly03 Chapters: 0:00 Intro 0:34 Opening titles 0:43 Preparing the charcoal transfer 3:19 Our paints 4:18 Some examples 5:40 Continuing with the charcoal 7:53 Josh explains how to prepare the tree image in GIMP 8:47 Preparing a background on the gel plate 13:38 Transferring the charcoal to the gel plate 17:04 Adding acrylic colour to our transfer 20:55 Adding details with Prism Studio Pen 23:45 Printing the first gel plate print 25:11 Preparing transfers for a second print 30:12 Adding colour with Pan Pastel 39:54 Printing the second gel plate print 42:29 Revealing the first print 42:54 Some final details with Prism Studio Pen 47:06 Outro 47:22 Todays prints & closing titles Original music by The Manitou: http://themanitou.bandcamp.com Filmed and edited by Joshua Blanc and Sybille Muschik Shoreline Studio: Facebook: / painterly03 Instagram: / shorelinestudio01
