Saving The Village: Setting Up A Sample Orc Encounter

In this video I continue my series on creating a long term conflict with an orcen chief called Kurok the Annointed One. This encounter is designed for a group of 5 third level characters, and it will be the first encounter the players will have with Kurok's minions. A small village called Rodenburr has been the victim of mysterious night attacks, with stolen livestock, ruined crops and burned buildings. These attacks have caused dissension in the town because a few villagers, most notablly the richest man in town, have not been affected. The authorities in Dramos, the town a day's travel away, have sent soldiers to patrol, but the attacks only occur after the soldiers leave town. I'll discuss how to create a village and it's residents with a mind on both the long term strategy of your player's rival and in terms of creating a plot hook to interest the players in investigating the attacks. I give tips on balancing fleshed out villagers with more stock characters, and how to create rivavlries among those you do develop in greater detail. I then discuss how you can realistically connect your player characters, using their backgrounds and class characteristics, to the conflict.
