But if you do not have that option, like us (phew, we didn’t have anyone), then go for an airbnb or motel booking for two-four weeks. This will give you enough time to find a permanent accommodation and settle in. But Remember, finding accommodation in Canada is not an easy task. !!warning!! Let me speak about housing options in the city of Toronto region: Most of the rental listings come up in: Kijiji.ca Torontorentals.ca Capreit.ca (management website for their apartments only) View it.ca Still the popular opinion is that, only 20% listings come online and the rest are in the hands of realtors. I cannot comment on its reliability, but to reassure, we did find one from Kijiji.ca Now, what are the different rental options? Well, here goes the list: Room sharing: A single apartment/basement/house, will be shared by two or more individuals or families. Pros: economical Cons: share kitchen, washrooms, laundry Price: $500-800 Basement: REPORT THIS AD REPORT THIS AD An entire basement of a house can be rented out by an individual or a small family. Pros: whole place to yourself, no sharing of places, sometimes your own laundry Cons: less sunlight, might get a little colder in winter, cannot walkout into the backyard or a balcony to get a little fresh air, living in someone else’s house Price: $1000 – 1500 (with or without including utilities) Walkout Basement: Similar to basements, but they are usually above the ground level with a separate entrance. Pros: More sunlight, feel like ground floor, whole place to yourself, no sharing of places, might get your own laundry, can walkout anytime to find some fresh air Cons: living in someone else’s house Price: $ 1200 – 1500 (with or without utilities included) Studio apartment: An individual apartment/ flat with a single room which includes the space for bedroom, kitchen and living area with an attached washroom and a balcony. Pros: good space for bachelor’s, pecks of living in a separate apartment Cons: not good for families, can be a little cramped Economy: $1200 -1500 ( plus utilities and parking) Apartment: REPORT THIS AD Individual apartments/flats with 1 bhk/ 2bhk or more options. The price generally increases with the increase in number of bed rooms and also locality wise. Pros: a separate apartment or rather a whole living space to you and your family, a walkout balcony and chance to get fresh air and a view Cons: common laundry Price: $1300 – $1700 for 1 BHK (plus utilities and parking) Condo: These are also Individual apartments/flats with 1 bhk/ 2bhk or more options. The price generally increases with the increase in number of bed rooms and also locality wise. So what makes a condo different from an apartment is that; in a CONDO, along with an apartment you also get access to certain building amenities like gym, swimming pool, day care or play area, 24*7 essential shops etc Pros: same as apartment + in suite laundry + parking and most utilities included in rent Cons: no back yard/front yard Price: $1500 and above Town house: They are like two houses attached together. Almost always Symmetrical. Pros: nobody to answer – you can always feel at home Cons: the front yard, back yard and drive way is your responsibility; no sharing of utility bill Price: $2000 and above (plus utilities) Detached house: REPORT THIS AD REPORT THIS AD They are individual houses. Good for families who love their privacy. Pros: nobody to answer – you can always feel at home Cons: the front yard, back yard, drive way and basement is your responsibility; no sharing of utility bill Price: $2500 and above (plus utilities) #priyanshuvlogs
