Aerial of Vila Kennedy favela ++MUTE++ STORYLINE: A group of musicians called the Morocco Ball watched and cheered for Morocco against France in the 2022 Qatar World Cup semi-finals on Wednesday at the Vila Kennedy favela in Rio de Janeiro . The working-class neighborhood has many streets named after African countries, with it’s main street named Morocco Avenue. With that in mind, musicians from the local Brazilian funk ball also named their favela party Morocco Ball and after Brazil was kicked out of the World Cup, the group already had their new favorites for the title. Graffiti of the Moroccan flag can be seen up and down the street. The party's producers and DJs also wear the Moroccan national football team jersey at the event, so the atmosphere was ready for the game. Despite losing to France, DJ Rafael Rodrigues was happy for Morocco’s campaign. "We are also happy because it’s the first African team to go this far, to the semi-finals," he said. "No one expected it." "They reached the semi-finals, showed they have what it takes and in 2026 I think they’ll be back again, even stronger, to play the semi-finals and even the final."
