A few weeks ago my mom asked me to cover one of the songs that she enjoyed from church. I’d never heard the song before and didn’t have much luck finding any sheet music for it. I was however, able to find several vocal and instrumental recordings of it, so I decided to just try my hand at developing my own arrangement by ear. This is a departure from other recordings I’ve done which have been largely just playing other folks arrangements, so I found it an interesting additional challenge and one that I may well venture further into in the future (along with perhaps some original compositions). The song was written by John Michael Talbot, an American Catholic singer-songwriter, guitarist, author, television presenter and founder of a monastic community known as the Brothers and Sisters of Charity. The chord progression is rather typical of gospel songs and not particularly difficult to discern, but it does support an appealing melody. I find it relaxing to both play and listen to.
