Birmingham based chippy, George and Helen's, has been awarded the Pukka Pies Fish and Chip Shop of the Month Award for February 2013. The family run business in Harbourne beat off a number of contenders for the prestigious monthly award that has been founded to reward the nation's finest Fish and Chip shops. Founded in 1967 the family run business has been a part of the fabric of Harbourne for 45 years. Customers at the shop have even included pop band Westlife, who one employee mistakenly took for a tribute act. Sally Voss from Pukka Pies, commented; "Kostas and his team are very worthy winners of the Fish and Chip Shop of the month award.Despite the difficult economic times they have been able to grow and have been a part of local life in Harbourne, Birmingham for a considerable time." Pukka Pies are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2013 and currently serve the UK, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Malta, Gibraltar and France with a network of National and European distributors along with their own multi-drop delivery vehicles in the Midlands.
