The COVID-19 pandemic has hit capital projects particularly hard in the Middle East, and many factors contributed to this, including worker absence, supply chain disruptions, and deteriorating investor confidence. In the latest episode of the Expert Interviews series, Construction Week’s digital editor, Ranju Warrier, understands from Maarten Wolfs, partner, capital projects and infrastructure leader at PwC Middle East, on how the current scenario will effect construction stakeholders in terms of stability in the existing market. Between February and April, PwC Middle East ran the Capital Project and Infrastructure Survey, which helped gather data on the how the stakeholders have been “anxious” about the supply chain as well as the economic impact of the measures that were adopted to combat the pandemic. Wolfs also sheds light on the lack of effective project management and its impact on budget, in addition to the evolving nature of project financing as we know it, the rise in public private partnerships (PPPs), and private financing in the Middle East.
