The Karnataka Lokayukta has written to the state government requesting a new surveillance unit to combat corruption within the Lokayukta Institution itself. Initially, the Lokayukta had sought a separate vigilance team of 24 officers, which was rejected by the government. In response, the government has now stated that steps will be taken to re-establish an internal vigilance unit using staff already transferred from the Anti-Corruption Bureau to the Lokayukta Institution.
