This video is from a call back from a fellow Service technicians repair. He had changed out the control board on the Trane gas furnace. The new board came with a new igniter in the box with the new control board. He unfortunately didn't replace the igniter because the old one was still testing good. What he didn't know was the old igniter was 80 volts and the new OEM control board and igniter was converted to 120 volts. His original repair on the control board did work for a few days but then burned out the igniter due to improper voltages. I have ran into multiple occasions over the years where technicians have put the wrong voltage igniter in these Trane units. Another common issue i have seen is people putting 120 volt universal igniters in these units, while they are still hooked up with an 80 volt ignition control board. They do glow and appear to work at first glance. After a couple days they stop working and it turns into a call back. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to check the voltage to the igniter in a call for heat with a volt meter. Hope this video helps some fell service technicians out.
