Nanci Griffith | Lone Star State of Mind | 1987 • I couldn’t let this day pass, without honoring one of my musical heroes, Nanci Griffith who passed away yesterday, 13th of August 2021. • Gee, it's been a long, long time I don’t remember exactly when I came to love the art of Nanci Griffith. Certainly it was by the time of Lone Star State of Mind in 1987, the first song of hers I remember absolutely adoring. Later in the mid-90’s I saw her perform at the Glastonbury festival. It was a Sunday morning show, and I had I suppose been up most of the night partying. Her purity - as it appeared to me in that moment - and crystal clear singing brought me to tears of joy. My girlfriend Kim looked at me aghast, as if to say, "You sentimental fool". A little later still my buddy Richard and I went to see a sublime performance by her at London’s Royal Albert hall, with the London Symphony Orchestra.
