The piece, from piano cycle "French album", op.55, is dedicated to the French composer Claude Debussy. Recorded live in Riga, House of Blackheads, in April 21, 2001 by the author. "French album" / "Francijas albums", op.55 (1997) - the cycle is dedicated to eleven French composers - J.P. Rameau, E. Satie, G. Fauré, C. Debussy, M. Ravel, F. Poulenc, O. Messiaen, M. Legrand, J. Alain, L. Boulanger and F. Lai, who became close for Kalējs already in school years, and their music was like a protection from the Soviet regime. Aivars Kalējs is a Latvian organist and composer. Studied with Nikolajs Vanadziņš, Ādolfs Skulte and Lūcija Garūta. He has written about 100 opuses of symphonic, organ, piano, chamber and choir music. His works have been played in concerts around the world, published in editions such as Bärenreiter, Edition Peters and have won several composition awards, e.g. symphonic work "Musica Dolente" - dedicated to the victims of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. His works are included in many CD's of the great musicians and collectives such as Iveta Apkalna and Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. Kalējs has given concerts in almost all of the European countries, the USA, Canada, Japan and has participated in dozens of international organ festivals. He has recorded six solo CDs and participated in many CD recordings. He has performed with many orchestras such as Luxembourg Philharmonic and Kremerata Baltica, as well as collaborations with many great musicians such as conductors Andris Nelsons and Pierre Cao, soprano Inessa Galante and cellist Alexander Kniazew. Along with Maurice Ravel, he was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music. His music is noted for its sensory component and frequent eschewing of tonality. Debussy's work usually reflected the activities or turbulence in his own life. In French literary circles, the style of this period was known as symbolism, a movement that directly inspired Debussy both as a composer and as an active cultural participant.
