Carranza: There's high probability Duterte case will proceed to trial

Atty. Ruben Carranza, Senior Expert at the International Council for Transitional Justice, discussed his observations of the past three sessions of the confirmation of charges hearings regarding the crimes against humanity case filed against former President Rodrigo Duterte. According to Carranza, it was predictable for defense lawyer Nicholas Kaufman to challenge the merits of the evidence presented by the prosecution and whether it meets the chamber's bar to proceed to a formal trial. However, Carranza added that there is a high probability the case will proceed to trial, as the prosecution has met the required standards by providing the judges with substantial grounds to believe that Duterte committed the crimes.
