Friends, I have a question for you. Did you know that Liggett & Myers made a sister blend to Velvet?! Well, I've got a treat for you. They did make a sister blend and it was called Velvet's Sterling Blend! I believe it was introduced sometime in the 1960's and I managed to get my hands on an early production tin from that time period in mint condition. It seems as if this was Liggett & Myers version of a Half and Half style mixture consisting of Bright Virginia and Kentucky White Burley. Upon opening, I was greeted by a bouquet of sweet raisins, boozy chocolate, baking spices, and some other notes I can’t put a finger on. Very complex to my sniffer and palette. I was also surprised by the generally rougher cut on this, which contrasts regular Velvet’s cut considerably. It was a treat through and through. and I will continue to peg more flavors as I sip and puff through a few more delicious bowls. Sadly, this is another one that didn’t make it in the long run for us to be able to readily purchase on today’s market. It was an honor to get this can and share a little bit of nostalgia with you today. Pipe featured today is none other than an original USA made Falcon pipe from the 1940s. I do hope that you have a chance to enjoy the relaxing sounds of Jackie Gleason, fire up a bowl of your favorite tobacco, and enjoy the trip to yesteryear! Take care and all the best to you and yours.
