On Thursday 23 February 2023, we presented our plan to help Londoners with the cost of living and breathing. 00:00 Peter Fortune - our plan 04:50 Nick Rogers 06:08 Emma Best 08:53 First vote 10:52 Second amendment - buses 12:42 Greens and Lib Dems 13:30 Andrew Boff 14:06 Peter Fortune 15:30 Second vote Our amendment to Sadiq Khan’s Budget proposed to: 🛑 Stop the ULEZ expansion, and let the people decide at the 2024 Mayoral election. 🧊 Freeze Sadiq Khan’s Council Tax, cancelling his 9.7% increase. 💨 Invest over half a billion in a serious plan to reduce air pollution. The plan was fully-costed, affordable and ready to go. 🔒 Free school meals funding remained protected, with the announcement earlier that week still in place. 🔒 Police, fire, transport and all other public services funding remained protected. 🚌 Our plan would deliver a fully zero emissions bus fleet by 2030, four years earlier than Sadiq Khan’s target, with an unprecedented £500m investment. This policy would save lives, tackling one of the biggest sources of harm from air pollution. 🎯 And we would launch a new £50m Pollution Hotspots fund, helping local authorities reduce air pollution where the problem is greatest. We will tackle air pollution where it is, instead of taxing where it isn’t. This amendment would benefit the lives of millions of Londoners. It would put more money back in your pocket, while protecting public services. And it would save lives, by taking real action to clean the air. We asked London Assembly members to put aside party interests and vote for this amendment. Here is what happened.
