The Morning Meeting is Groundwork Ohio’s virtual platform to engage, mobilize, and inform advocates for young children in Ohio. Whether you’re a policy-maker, community leader, or parent—The Morning Meeting is your space to grow Ohio’s commitment to young children. This Morning Meeting features Erica Phillips of National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) and Daniel Hains of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Erica Phillips brings a diverse set of business and education experiences as the Executive Director of the National Association for Family Child Care. The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) is a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting high-quality child care by strengthening the profession of home-based early learning programs. Prior to joining NAFCC, Erica served as President for All Our Kin, a leading social enterprise in early education, where she was responsible for strong program implementation across multiple sites. Before All Our Kin, Erica founded Second Home Early Child Care Centers & led the Human Capital team at Achievement First Public Schools. Erica was also a fellow with Education Pioneers, Aspen Institute (Pahara & Ascend) and the National Black Child Development Institute. Erica began her career working as a strategy consultant at Monitor Group. Erica holds an M.B.A. and an M.Ed. from Stanford University, and a B.S. in industrial engineering from Northwestern University. Daniel Hains joined National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 2023, now serving as the Chief Policy and Professional Advancement Officer, where he leads a portfolio that includes federal and state policy and advocacy, higher education accreditation, and professional recognition. In partnership with his team, and with NAEYC’s members and affiliates, Daniel works to implement NAEYC’s non-partisan early childhood policy agenda while centering the voices and needs of early childhood educators across all 50 states and multiple settings. Prior to joining NAEYC, Daniel served as the Assistant Director of Federal Policy at ZERO TO THREE, where he helped lead and implement ZERO TO THREE’s infant-toddler focused policy agenda, with an emphasis on child care and early learning policy. He started his career on the policy team at the Children’s Defense Fund, where he worked on a diverse portfolio of issues centering the needs of children and their families. Daniel earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s degree in public administration and policy from American University.
