It was built by Hari Singh Nalwa, a prominent general in the army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and is a fortified structure with a military design, including kill holes. The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) and Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) have planned to restore the haveli. The temples are an important Hindu pilgrimage site and are believed to have existed since at least the 7th century. The Katas Raj complex includes seven ancient temples, havelis around the pond, and five other temples, including Shiva Temple, Hanuman Temple, and Ramachandra Temple.
