Today’s drum cover was originally played by Steve Gadd. Steve’s influence on my drumming can’t be overstated! If you were a drummer that grew up when I did in the late 70s, lived the NY metropolitan area, and didn’t know about Steve’s drumming then you weren’t paying attention to music from that era! Be pop, rock, jazz, fusion … Gadd was everywhere! Also Gadd’s drum kit was famous at the NY drum shops! They were selling the famous tom set up to everyone that would buy it! In 1979 when I purchased my Gretsch drums (seen in the video) at Pro Percussion in NYC, they tried to sell me this kit exactly! I wanted two floor toms, not mounted toms as floor toms! SO I PASSED on that kit. But eventually, (in 1980) I bought the 8x10 to have that Gadd 10” tom! But in 2026, the missing piece to my 1979 Gretsch kit being a Gadd kit arrived, a 10x14 mounted tom (thank you Mike Fasano)! I still dig the 14x14and 16x16 floor toms more! Anyhow, enjoy! Hideaway is the fifth studio album by American jazz fusion artist David Sanborn, released by Warner Bros. Records in February 1980. The album was produced by Michael Colina. It was recorded at Celebration Recording Studios in New York in 1979, with the album cover depicting sunset along a shoreline. This album performed well on the Billboard jazz and R&B charts, peaking at No. 2 and No. 33, respectively. The drummer on this one is ... Steve Gadd!
