GETTING STARTED 1:07 HOW TO USE: 3:08 *** A hose end sprayer is a great tool to use when it comes to making a broadcast application of a herbicide or insecticide over a large area. But it can be confusing figuring out the right product-to-water ratio to use in the reservoir, and how much water you’re actually using. There are many hose end sprayers on the market, but as a cheaper alternative, we’re using the 20 gallon fixed rate hose end sprayer. This sprayer is great for homeowners because of its ease-of-use, simple ON/OFF control valve, and an adjustable deflector to suit different applications. This hose end sprayer is composed of several parts: the nozzle, the deflector, and the reservoir. The nozzle features a straw and control valve. Before setting up your hose end sprayer, be sure to wear your personal protective equipment, or PPE, especially when handling chemicals. And remember to keep all people and pets off your treated areas until dry. First, remove the sprayer’s reservoir from the nozzle. Make sure the sprayer’s control valve is held in the OFF position. Make sure your water is off and attach the sprayer to the hose. Set the hose aside. Check your product’s label, and add the proper amount of product for your desired treatment. Then add the proper amount of water to be sprayed into the reservoir. Make sure your water and the nozzle’s control valve are still turned off, and attach the reservoir to the nozzle. Once you confirm a tight connection, you can turn on the water. Turn the control valve to the ON position to start spraying. Keep an eye on the level of product and water in the reservoir. You may have to adjust your walk speed or rate of application to ensure your treatment area receives an equally dispersed amount of product. If you’ve left the deflector on, water will fan downward, perfect for a broadcast treatment. To apply product to the undersides of trees or bushes, you can turn the deflector upside down to fan the water upward. To reach further spots, remove the deflector entirely to produce a steady jet of water. Always switch the control valve OFF before adjusting the deflector.
