Why Roadside Assistance Only Businesses Fail Hey guys, what’s happening? Ok, today, I want to talk you about the problems with growing a roadside assistance only business. And how, even if you have a tow truck you can still slide into the same type of thinking these guys fall into. First off, just to be clear, roadside assistance only refers to folks who drive around in their personal vehicle and provide jumpstarts, lockouts, tire changes, and gas deliveries. They’re usually working for peanuts through a secondary middleman. For example, they don’t contract with AllState, or whomever. No…the “call center” they work for does. Now, I could talk about how they’re mostly underinsured and how the motor clubs and call centers are flying under the radar with regard to the rules and regs…but I’ll leave that for another time. What I want you to know about these guys and the way they do business is that it’s extremely short-sighted. Here’s why. You know as well as I do that nothing is ever cut and dry. When you’re sent on a call all kinds of things can come up. For example. Say you’re sent to do a jumpstart on a car, but after a few minutes you realize that the battery is fine. The issue lies somewhere else. Maybe it’s a starter or alternator, whatever. Well, in that case, a roadside assistance only guy isn’t going to be able to help. He’s not quite as useless as tits on a bull, but close. This means that growing this type of business is next to impossible. Who are you going to appeal to? Motorists don’t know what they need. They think they have a flat tire when it’s a broken ball joint. Repair shop owners don’t want to mess with you. They need cars towed to their shop. And, if you’re working for a motor club and this situation occurs, they’re going to have to send out a tow truck. Besides, there is no Google category for roadside assistance. But, just because you have a legit towing business, don’t think you can’t fall for the same type of short-sighted thinking these guys engage in. The towing business is a feast or famine type business. Which means you must market to multiple customer types. Cash customers, Repair Shop Owners, Law Enforcement, and even Motor Clubs to some extent. So you get calls from a variety of sources. Roadside only guys are limiting themselves, and so are you if you’re not properly marketing your business and appealing to the people who need your services. If you’re ready to get your business moving in the right direction go to my website and schedule a call. In the meantime, save this video so you can watch it later and follow me for more tips.
