With the New Year upon us, I think it’s time for Louisiana Creoles to take the biggest step there is to taking our culture back and that is by learning the language of our not so distant ancestors! Let’s make 2024 OUR year. Most Creoles and Cajuns have grandparents or great-grandparents who spoke French or Louisiana Creole (Kouri Vini) & we owe it to the preservation of our beautiful culture & our offspring to do the same. Sadly, most of our grandparents/great-grandparents did not pass these languages down to us as speaking them was heavily discouraged, frowned upon & and even outlawed. Let’s take back what’s ours & make ourselves a more prominent & distinct presence in the process.
