The Mystery Ladies of Fashion Dolls by Madame Alexander | Doll History Video

This video originally aired in the January 2019 VDC - the FIRST Virtual Doll Convention! The dolls featured in the video belong to my mother, Diane Hoffman. Perhaps Madame Alexander's crowning achievement in doll costuming culminated in the 21-inch Portrait dolls. These were made in composition (1938-1946), hard plastic, then later vinyl. The original thirteen portrait dolls were meant to be used as window displays. Compo Portraits include the following: Princess Flavia doll, Mary Louise doll, Carmen doll, Juliet doll, Orchard Princess Doll, Judy Garland doll, Lady Windermere doll, Antoinette doll, Scarlett O’Hara doll, Melanie doll, June bride doll, Godey doll, and Degas doll. Scarlett and GWTHW dolls were made in other sizes, too. When new, these dolls were considered pricey at around $75 each.
