The People Liberation Army Navy’s (PLAN) Type 055 guided-missile destroyer Nanchang was commissioned at a naval base in the city of Qingdao, located in the eastern China’s Shandong Province on 12 January 2021. With the NATO designated name of Renhai-class, Nanchang was the first new warship to enter service with the Navy in 2020. Due to its dimensions and range of capabilities, the ship was classified as a cruiser by the United States.
