With over 22,000 works of art, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria has the largest public collection in British Columbia, including the most important collection of Asian art in Western Canada. The exhibition, A View From Here: Reimagining the AGGV Collections, showcases works from the core collecting areas of the AGGV: Indigenous & Canadian Art and Asian Art. One gallery focuses on our world-renowned Asian art collections, and the other is devoted to works by Indigenous and Canadian artists, from the nineteenth century to the present. Curated by Dr. Heng Wu, AGGV Curator of Asian Art, The Roger Lee Gallery of Asian Art features over 300 carefully selected pieces from Asian art collection. Dr. Wu's intention in focusing on materiality, such as jade, bronze, ceramics, lacquer, and even Yixing teapots, ivory, amber, snuff bottles, ink paintings, woodblock prints, invites visitors to engage with these works in a tactile and sensory way. This ongoing exhibition was curated by Steven McNeil, AGGV Chief Curator & Director of Exhibitions, Dr. Heng Wu, AGGV Curator of Asian Art, and Mel Granley, former AGGV Assistant Curator.
