A real WordPress site got hacked - and in this video, I walk you through the exact steps I took to clean it up and lock it down. No theory - just a real-world fix, on a live client website. ⚙️ Cleanup Steps: 1️⃣ Back up your website. 2️⃣ Replace the wp-includes and wp-admin folders with fresh versions from wordpress dot org. 3️⃣ Remove all root files, except for wp-config.php (make sure to check for any unusual code). Replace the files with fresh versions from wordpress dot org. 4️⃣ Move or delete any folders not related to WordPress from the public folder. 5️⃣ Remove any PHP files in the /wp-content/uploads folder. 6️⃣ Reinstall/update all plugins to ensure you have the latest, secure versions. 7️⃣ Delete all admin accounts, except for the main one. 8️⃣ Get rid of all inactive themes and plugins. 9️⃣ If you don't have the original theme, manually inspect your theme for any suspicious code. Otherwise, replace it with a clean copy from your local source. 🔟 Change the admin password to a strong, unique one. 1️⃣1️⃣ Refresh your permalinks. 1️⃣2️⃣ Install and run a Wordfence scan to identify any remaining issues. 1️⃣3️⃣ Clear any site cache plugins to ensure they reflect the clean version. 1️⃣4️⃣ Update your cPanel/hosting passwords for added security. 1️⃣5️⃣ Create a backup of your clean website version. 1️⃣6️⃣ Finally, thoroughly test your website to ensure everything is back on track! 💬 If you've cleaned a site before, share your favorite tips below!
