Feeling exhausted from constantly reminding, nagging, and checking your kids' grades with little progress? In this video, I share how shifting from telling my kids what to do to asking questions helped them take ownership of their tasks. By asking, "What’s your plan for getting this done?" I encouraged critical thinking and autonomy, leading to better follow-through. Research on motivational interviewing supports this approach to build intrinsic motivation. Micromanaging often sends the message:I don’t trust you to handle this. Instead of daily reminders, try a weekly check-in with a focus on systems over grades. Support them by sitting beside them, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and letting natural consequences occur. You're not just helping them get through the semester you're teaching life skills. I’d love to work with you personally. Check the link below to learn about my parent coaching program.
