So we have a high unemployment in Sweden in general among youth, but specifically higher in these neighbourhoods." 8. Various of Husby residents 9. SOUNDBITE: (English) Quena Soruco, Local resident and representative from the Megafonen organisation: "People here feel many times like they are not listened to, especially youth feel that way. Like we don't have the same opportunities here as we see in other places. So if the police shooting was the spark, the underlying reasons are years of feeling hopeless. Hopelessness. And this is the result of that, of politicians ignoring these areas, of media totally ignoring these places and only giving these places attention when something like this happens." 10. It's tragic that it's happened, because I don't think that this leads to be a better life for these youngsters or those who live here. I think we have to take the democratic way and let our voices be heard." 14. Close of police badge on uniform 15. Officer entering local police station 24 May 2013 ++NIGHT SHOT++ 16. Mid of burning car STORYLINE: The Swedish capital, Stockholm, has been hit by a fifth night of civil disturbances that started following a fatal police shooting. Albeit quieter than on previous nights, firefighters continued to battle sporadic arson attacks on cars early on Friday. The unrest began on Sunday in response to a shooting on 13 May in which police killed a 69-year-old, knife-wielding man in the suburb of Husby, where 80-percent of the 11-thousand inhabitants have immigrant backgrounds. During the daytime, Husby appears tranquil - blocks of well-maintained apartments and leafy squares with cafes and a multicultural vibe. There are few signs of the ongoing disturbances, with authorities quickly taking away burned vehicles, or boarding up broken windows. Around 80 percent of Husby's residents are either first- or second-generation immigrants. Though the area appears well kept, the social problems are manifold, says Camila Salazar, who works for Fryshuset, a charity that does outreach work with youth in Stockholm's marginalised areas. "In many of these neighbourhoods the kids, the youth, don't have the same opportunities and a lot of them have not finished school and don't have an education," said Salazar. "And we all know that without an education it's really hard to get a job. So we have a high unemployment in Sweden in general, among youth, but specifically higher in these neighbourhoods," she added. Local resident Quena Suroco said that many people in her neighbourhood feel that nobody pays attention to the problems they are facing. "People here feel like many times they are not listened to, especially youth feel that way," she said, standing outside the local office of the community-based charity Megafonen that she works for.
