The fourth edition of the Bengal Classical Music Festival, held at Dhaka's Army Stadium in 2015, was dedicated to the pioneering artist Qayyum Chowdhury. On the opening night (November 27), the penultimate performance featured the renowned Sitar maestro Pandit Kushal Das. Performing in the Bangla month of Agrahayan, Pandit Das aptly chose Raga Hemant—a soulful creation of Baba Ustad Allauddin Khan that mirrors the essence of the Hemanta season. The elaborate 'Alap' evoked the nostalgic beauty of rural Bengal, reminiscent of Jibanananda Das's poetry. He was joined by the acclaimed Satyajit Talwalkar on Tabla, whose masterful accompaniment during the 'Gat' and 'Jhala' elevated the recital into a sublime tribute to the motherland. The performance concluded with a melodic Pahadi Dhun, bringing the serene aura of the hills to the heart of Dhaka. Artist Bio: Pandit Kushal Das: A leading exponent of the Maihar Gharana, Pandit Kushal Das is celebrated globally for his profound mastery over the Sitar and Surbahar. Known for his melodic precision and creative 'Gakiaki Ang' style, his music carries the rich legacy of Indian classical traditions. Satyajit Talwalkar: One of India’s premier Tabla players, Satyajit inherits the legendary lineage of his father, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar. His versatile accompaniment and rhythmic brilliance make him a favorite among top-tier classical instrumentalists. Copyright & Legal: © 2026 Bengal Foundation. All Rights Reserved.
