Royal Norwegian Air Force F-35As taking part in the RAF Exercise 'Cobra Warrior' also took part in 'Ted's Quick Climb Friday' at RAF Lakenheath. The Royal Norwegian Air Force's 331 & 332 Fighter Squadrons have an outstanding connection and heritage together as special 'Wing' from the Second World War. They were part of Fighter Command with 331 Squadron forming at RAF Catterick in Yorkshire on 21 July 1941 along with 332 squadron, who formed a year later on January 1942. 331 was given the code "FN" (For Norway) and 332 squadron code "WW". On 4 May 1942, 331 Squadron moved south to RAF North Weald, forming the 132 Norwegian Wing which and were equipped with Supermarine Spitfire IX. Both squadrons were part of the Allied air umbrella over the landing area in the Dieppe Raid, and later flying fighter sweeps and escort operations over occupied France and the Netherlands. Between the two squadrons during WWII, 331 and 332 Squadrons scored 180 confirmed kills. In honour of the achievements of the Second World War squadrons, the RNoAF has maintained RAF squadron names, including a 331st Fighter Squadron, now flying F-35A Lightning IIs and based at Ørland Air Station. The Squadron features two swords in saltire (one Norwegian Viking sword and the other a British sword) bound together with a ring. So what is a Quick Climb? Unlike the Typhoon which accelerates vertically after between 8 to 10 seconds from brakes to take off, aircraft such as the F15E or F35A will usually clear the whole runway maintaining an altitude anywhere between 40-100ft with speeds of around 320mph and then pull the aircraft vertically or near vertical to quickly climb to the aircraft's cruising altitude. It is more commonly requested by the pilot as a "quick climb" more usual. What is an Unrestricted Climb? It is the same as a quick climb. Why do they do Unrestricted climbs/PTOs/Quick climbs There are many reasons such as clearing airspace barriers, short runways, to burn fuel before air-to-air refuelling or just to get to a destination quicker. Quick climbs can also be used in a combat scenario for both offensive and defensive, either getting out of a base quick from attacks or scramble to intercept. But these are just a few reasons, one also could be to impress the Ted Coningsby Squadron...ooh yeah! #f35lightning #rnaof #cobrawarrior #runway #tedconingsby #unrestrictedclimb #quickclimbfriday #trending #fighterjets #331squadron #332squadron #norway #norwegian #f35a #lightning Official Ted Coningsby Merchandise https://tedconingsby.co.uk/shop/ noTEDS https://tedconingsby.co.uk/noteds/ Ted Social stuff Instagram / ted_coningsby Facebook / tedconingsbyuk X / tedconingsby www.tedconingsby.co.uk Ted Coningsby Membership: Join our channel to get access to members only perks.
