Pedagogy Ponders Piano students may enjoy thinking of a storyline for this piece and enjoy thinking through a plot for this mysterious piano piece. This piece is a great one to do some analysis first alongside students and there are so many things to explore. I loved seeing the variety of intervals throughout in their harmonic form and then also the opening that outlines a d minor triad in the right hand. Watch out for those 'sneaky 6th' as they appear! In measure 15 students get to explore an "acciacatura" and just saying that word makes me smile! I loved the crossover notes for the left hand in measures 17 and 19 and this is another great place to plan out where those hands are heading and how it feels to leap that far as an elementary student. D minor 5ths have good old Sam sneaking up the piano and then with a fun 'jazzy' sounding chord to finish up this charming piece. I hope you enjoy playing and teaching this piece too!
