Join Lord David Anderson, the UK's Independent Prevent Commissioner and former Terror Watchdog, for a seminar on the changing nature of extremist threats and the UK's Prevent strategy as part of the Calleva-Airey Neave Global Security Seminar Series. The UK’s Prevent strategy has stood at the centre of debates on counter-extremism for two decades. Drawing on his recent Prevent review and his own experience as Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, Lord Anderson will reflect on what Prevent has achieved, where it has struggled, and how the UK’s extremism landscape has shifted in recent years. The seminar will touch on the changing nature of extremist threats, from militant jihadism to extreme right-wing movements and new challenges posed by violent misogyny and nihilistic violence. It will consider what lessons can be learned from Prevent’s successes and failures, and evaluate what the state could and should be doing in the future to address extremism and combat extremism-related violence. The seminar is followed by a Q&A moderated by Dr Julia Ebner, Calleva Researcher and Leader of Oxford’s Violent Extremism Lab. This seminar series is funded by the Calleva Centre for Evolution and Human Science and the Airey Neave Trust. Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford http://www.bsg.ox.ac.uk/
