Shoppers expressed concern over the federal government's handling of the shutdown situation and SNAP funding. “I know a lot of clients that I’ve dealt with in the past and still deal with... survive off of those benefits, and I hear a lot of excuses -- people saying they should be working for what they get. When you can’t work, and you have to take care of your kids, that’s not an option, and I think our government right now is not fulfilling their duties properly; it’s a shame,” Dennis Moore said. “It shouldn’t be happening, and in past government shutdowns, it hasn’t happened. I do know there is funding for when this happens that can be tapped into, and they’re choosing not to,” Calla Geisler said. In addition to the planned food drives, the company will also provide food donations to FISH Food Pantry & the Roseburg Dream Center, as it does annually. The store said it is using money earmarked for its marketing and promotion budget to offer the discount to SNAP users.
