An interesting part of traveling to the quieter parts of Japan is that the transportation options can be extremely limited. Before heading back to the inn, I had to time my schedule and caught the early (at sunset) final bus from the Tojinbo Cliffs to stop in at Awara Onsen, an onsen town. Basically, this part of Awara is dedicated to providing onsen services, ryokan inns, and a relaxing time. It's very quiet and definitely feels like a destination for locals. I took a walk around the streets and saw quite a few resorts with spring water resorts and restaurants. I made sure to try oroshi soba, a Fukui Prefecture special (didn't film). After a nice light meal, I went to Yunomachi Park, which has a small outdoor area of food stalls, along with a foot bathhouse. What I didn't know is how some of these foot spas don't have a reception and you can go in to relax in the various foot baths (with different water temperatures and properties) they offer for free. They charge for towels but I brought my own. It's kind of like this unattended stop where you can relax for a bit. There were a few groups inside but I found one of the baths was open. Definitely a unique and nice way to end the day.
