For our first installment of our Vestige Video Sessions we are proud to present Ragtime Willie. Ragtime Willie explains about this version of "Champagne Charlie ": "This is my personal favorite from this series. I felt we caught a nice groove, a lil' hop in its step if you know what I mean. Apparently this song was a bit of a hit back in the 60's, the 1860's!. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champ...) I learned it from the 'King of the Ragtime Guitar', Blind Blake. I'm sure it went over well on the minstrel stage, as any character song with a hint of humor and a memorable melody might have. Blake recorded it for the Paramount record company in June of 1932, (issue # 13137, extremely late and rare as a hens tooth!) just before they went under. If you like podcasts, here's a back story about phenomena of paramount- KUT » Views and Brews by Rebecca McInroy https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/k.... Oh yeah, that's 'Shoeless' Tom Crail, tearing it up on the tuba. One of Austins Finest." This video was filmed, recorded, edited and mixed by K at www.klarseen.com You might have seen Willie playing with other groups or solo here in Austin, Texas - if not, go out and find him, it is always a treat to see him brighten up a stage with his exuberant playing. He plays with Erik Hokkanen, Missy Beth & the Morning Afters, Stovetop Rangers, Austin Smith Trio, Hot Texas Swing Band and many, many more. When playing solo or with his gang Ragtime Willie have dug out and transcribed old forgotten gems. We got him to free up an afternoon in his busy schedule and filmed 7 examples of his extremely musical and personal approach to his findings in the treasure chest of the past.
