This video is a fairly complete overview of my process for designing and making leather holsters. Each holster is made to fit a specific firearm and finished to the customer’s specifications. The general process includes: Paper pattern Sketch holster (using scrap latigo and other leathers), Cutting, Lining, (that’s the dark suede you see in the video) Stitching, Edging & Burnishing and Dyeing & Finishing the holster. Hands-on-leather time usually runs about 3 hours for each of these new designs … if it goes as well as this design went. Early on, during the steep learning curve, I might make a holster 3-5 times before I was happy with it. This video represents a more typical process now, and one I have done about 200 times, perhaps more. That accounts for much of the cost in gun leather. The material is not cheap and the tool collection grows, but it’s the time that becomes the value in the holsters. I have never purchased patterns or cut a holster apart to use as a pattern. Every holster or leather item I make starts at the same place … it’s an idea in my mind, or that of a customer. I want to thank Art at Bird’s Eye Drone Imaging for help with cameras and editing. Art does great commercial, industrial and private event recordings.
