Professor Yuval Gadot heads the Jacob M. Alkow Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at Tel-Aviv University and is lead archaeologist at the ‘City of David’ excavations project. The author of seven archaeological books and over one hundred scientific articles, Gadot is also co-director of the Jerusalem ‘Givati Parking Lot’ Excavations and leads an environmental study of the rural landscape surrounding the city. Professor Gadot's lecture will show how today's interdisciplinary archaeological research provides a better understanding of Jerusalem's social and ideological reality during the 7th century BCE, the heyday of the Judean monarchy and a period when Judah was part of the Assyrian world order. Hosted by the Jewish Studies Program, in the UC San Diego Institute of Arts and Humanities.
