My day in Sausalito concludes with a beautiful sunset sail aboard the Schooner Freda B. Come along with me for a relaxing cruise through the San Francisco bay, with beautiful views of Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and Alcatraz, accompanied by soothing music! Freda B is a beautifully maintained tall-ship available for private charters and public sails on the San Francisco Bay and the magnificent California Coast. She is a gaff-rigged topsail coastal schooner United State Coast Guard certified up to 49 guests. She is 80 ft. in length with a 17 ft. beam. The legendary East Coast naval architect, Charles Wittholtz designed the schooner, which originally commissioned as the Spirit of St Augustine. Treworgy Yachts of Florida built Freda B in steel and she launched in 1991. Freda B is the flagship for SF Bay Adventures. She is a member: Master Mariners Benevolent Association, Tall Ships America, Passenger Vessel Association, a celebrated partner and accredited vessel during America’s Cup 34, Golden Gate Tall Ship Society, 2X winner of the Master Mariners Regatta, 2nd and 3rd place winner of the Great San Francisco Schooner Race, sweepstakes winner of the Sausalito Lighted Boat Parade. Freda B has been seen on the Travel Channel and Eye on the Bay and in Sea Magazine, Latitude 38, Cruising World and Sports Illustrated. Schooners originated in the late 1600’s from smaller, two-masted gaff-rigged vessels used on the shallow coast of lowland countries in Northern Europe. Originally employed for the Atlantic merchant trade, they quickly became indispensable to the European colonies in North America. A schooner has two masts, with the foremast shorter than the mainmast. Schooner sails follow the deck lengthwise, enabling them to catch the wind at a close angle. The positioning of the sails allows the ship superior maneuverability. Renowned for their grace and elegance, the gaff schooner has inspired artists, poets and sailors for almost two centuries.
