*DISCLAIMER* Kayaking is dangerous....Don't be stupid and scout if you are ever unsure whether you have a clean line. That being said I hope you follow me and love these rivers as much as I do! :) Solo Kayaking the seldom paddled Class III South Oromocto River in Southern New Brunswick. Starting at the South Oromocto Lake, this river starts as a slightly boney brook and quickly turns into a great run with some fun rapids and bumpy water. A scenic route with a minimum amount of flat water. Only downside to this trip was the shuttle.....It's a VERY long shuttle unfortunately. The technical feature of the route are as follows: Difficulty: Class III / Moderate / Intermediate. -The level on the water guage on this day was 1.15 Meters on the "North Branch Oromocto River" Guage at Tracy. Except for the very short scratchy bit at the first of the run I would call this a perfect level to enjoy this river in a whitewater kayak for the intermediate kayaker or beginner with and experienced partner. -The put in is located at 45°26'28.8"N 66°38'38.0"W On South Oromocto Lake Road / At the Northern point on South Oromocto Lake -The take out is located at 45°29'52.5"N 66°36'45.2"W at the bridge on Sand Brook Road -The run was apx. 11.1 Kilometers -Duration Apx 3 hours with some scouting. -Gradient of 5.77 Meters / Kilometer -The start elevation at the put in is apx. 415 feet. -The final elevation at the take out was 210 feet. -This gradient is fairly reflective of this run. There are no un runable drops and only a small amout of flat water. The bumpy water is a fun volume and the technial sets are very manageable class III's.
